Poole & Kent Mechanical Contractor Role
In our role as the design/build mechanical contractor, Poole and Kent assisted with the design and installation of the mechanical systems, including: HVAC (which included a steam-to-hot water heating system), commercial plumbing, and utility piping. The Arena is air-conditioned through both electric centrifugal chillers and steam turbine-driven chillers to optimize energy efficiency.
Challenges/ Achievements/ Goals
Poole and Kent worked closely with Gilbane and Ellerbe-Becket to ensure that the design of the mechanical systems would accommodate the center’s need to fluctuate peak and off-peak modes frequently. In February 2003 the Comcast Center earned the AGC 2003 Washington Contractor Award for new construction. In the General Contractor's acceptance of this award, Poole and Kent's craftsmanship was recognized and commended by Gilbane.
